Life is short.

Tell those you love that you love them. Life is so short and you never know when your time will end. This is the mother of a preschooler I had a couple of years ago. She was only 27. Say a prayer for her husband, her three little boys and all who she left behind.

This made me smile...

Our children made the national news!

Check out this link. Our kids were on the CBS National News on 10/20/08. What a surprise when we got a phone call asking us if we had seen it!

Update 10/20/08

Thank you to all of your for your prayers, questions, etc...
I know I have been REALLY bad about keeping you up to date on things.

Here is a brief update. Dad is home and getting OT, PT, Speech and home health care services.
Mom has taken a leave of absence from work and is unsure when she will go back. Dad is feeling stronger and looking better. He's up 7 lbs. from when he went into the hospital!

I went down on Thursday to go to two doctors appts. with them. The highlight of the day was that they finally capped his trach. and dad was able to talk within a few hours of that. I think that alone was enough to lift his spirits. He told Mom and me that you don't realize how much you take talking for granted until you can't. He will do chemo again on 10/27 and has two doctor's appts. this week. Radiation will start sometime after that. The dr. did feel that there have been some changes, for the better, with the feel of the tumor.

My mom did come up on Sat. for Gavin's soccer game. My brother, Matt, hung out with dad for a few hours. It was probably good for mom and dad to have a break from each other! ;o)

Will share more when there's more to share. Just keep them in your prayers.

Dad Update

My dad... he is hanging in there. They started chemo last week. Between that, the feeding tube and the trach; this week is really kicking his butt. They had been WAY over doing the feeding tube and it’s making him very very sick. My mom has been battling with the dr. all week over how much is enough/too much. I understand the dr. concern, but my dad hasn’t eaten much in years, they can’t expect he’s going to tolerate tons of “food” just because he needs to and they want him to. Today they are putting in a port for additional chemo treatments. My mom is also talking to social services today about home health care (against her better judgment, but at the urging of my brothers and me). I didn’t go down last weekend. He doesn’t feel like seeing anyone, my mom didn’t want to leave him and the kids can’t be around him immediately after chemo. I felt really guilty for not going, but what the heck was I supposed to do? Mom just sent a text that he will be going home on Friday.

Maya @ 5 Months

We went to JCP on October 3 for Maya's five month pics. I can't believe she's already five months old. Yesterday both of the baby sitters commented that she's gone from infant to baby over night. She's becoming a very independent thinker. Once she's mobile there will be no stopping her! She is obsessed with our food and drinks. I let her lick a pear I was eating over the weekend and she loved it! She would scream at me when I took it away. Clothing is such entertainment with her these days! She's so long that she can easily wear a 6-9 mth. (and even a 12 month in sleepers), but she's so tiny she can still fit into some 0-3 mth. items. I have been putting 0-3 mth. jeans on her for capris. They fit great. I think we may just skip some of the 3-6 mth. fall items, which is sad, but it's not like I can shrink her (she's in the 90-something percentile for her length).

Lots going on...little time to post.

Just a quick update:

Dad remains in the hospital. For those who don't know he began chemo this weekend for a tumor that was found in his throat. He is dealing with many issues in relationship with the trach and feeding tube that he has received since being admitted on 9/30/08. His headaches and various other ailments continue to plague him. Please keep him and my mom in your prayers.

My little ones are good. Maya turned 5 months old on 10/3/08. She's very funny. She REALLY wants food, and I don't mean the baby variety. If she could, she would steal anything and everything we try to eat.

Gavin had a soccer game this weekend! Always an adventure to watch four year olds play soccer. Lots of crying!

We ventured to Hilger's (Fort Wayne)this weekend. Had some fun. Got some pumpkins. Got some cute pictures!

Probably left out a lot, but you get the idea....
